Fuel Market Conditions Brief

This market conditions brief is the shape of the weekly issue a managed operations client receives. It answers one question for a buyer: given what the market did and what your cost actually is this morning, does your posted price move, and in which direction. It is written for the person who buys product, not for a trading desk, and in a live engagement it runs on the client's own licensed rack feed. Every price, spread, and percentage in this sample is invented for demonstration, none of it is market data, and none of it may be used for a pricing or purchasing decision.

What is in it

  • A bottom line section that makes the call for the week in plain terms, product by product, before any table appears.
  • What moved: front-month ULSD, RBOB, and crude against their five-session and 52-week context, with regional distillate days of supply.
  • A rack board across three terminals with the seven-session move and the board low-to-high spread by product.
  • Basis and spreads with a trailing-year mean and percentile for each, and what a wide terminal spread is worth on an 8,000 gallon load before freight.
  • Replacement cost against posted price for five sites, with a signal for each product: reprice up or hold, and what each signal does not account for.
  • A section on what the last issue got wrong, and a data, sources, and limits section that states what the brief does not know.

Why it is built this way

The forecast is never the headline

The observed sections of the brief, the rack board, the spreads, and replacement cost against posted price, are measurement. They are as good as the feed behind them, and the feed is the client's own licensed data. The forecast is inference and has not earned the same standing, so it never appears in the bottom line and no purchasing decision should rest on it.

It says what it got wrong

Section 7 states what the last issue called, what actually happened, and why the model missed. That section keeps appearing, and keeps saying so, until the forecast component earns the standing the measured sections already have. It is the reason to trust the other sections.

It runs on the client's own feed and stays there

True North Data Strategies does not redistribute licensed market data and does not resell it. The brief is generated on a fixed cadence from the client's licensed rack feed and cost and freight tables, reviewed by a person before it goes out, and filed to the client's records. The data stays inside the client's environment, and the client keeps a defined export path to their own data on exit.
